This is a commitment. This is a project that has been in the works since my rabbi gave me Rabbi Telushkin's
The Book of Jewish Values: A Day-by-Day Guide to Ethical Living for my bat mitzvah. The idea to keep track of my progress in learning each value and my thoughts or personal experiences towards each value came earlier this year. I've tried many times to read this book but I've rarely made it past the 3rd value. Now is the best time to sit down each day and dedicate some time to a little bit of Torah study. After all, I've been on an attempted spiritual path now for a few years, and since I've gotten to college, I feel that (at least in this department), my spiritual growth has been slightly stunted.
The name of my blog, "This Too is for the Good" comes from a teacher of Rabbi Akiva's: Rabbi Nachum Ish Gamzu. In the Talmud, the sages explain that his last name "Gamzu" comes from a saying that the rabbi would say in any situation, good or bad:
gam zu letova, this too is for the good. I believe that this is a perfect outlook on life. Even if a situation isn't ideal, it's for the best.
I believe this quote also comes into play when thinking about the track that I'll be on for the next year. It's going to be difficult to keep up with and maybe even to keep myself motivated, but in the end, I know that my journey will have been for the best.
